Biography

Hot Springs, Arkansas native; a demo deal with Capitol and a music-publishing deal with Sony/ATV brought him from New York to LA, where he's mostly lived ever since. Has released eight full-length albums on independent labels such as Brassland, Ba Da Bing, Max, and Unread. Album titles are Holding Merle Haggard, Lonely and Weird (with Geoff Reacher), Transparent, Not For the Faint of Heart!, The Duke of Arkansas, Sunday Afternoon, Vaporizer, and Nobody Knows: Live on WNYU, Aug 1, 1997. Has toured the US and England. With Unread, is in the process of releasing songs from large unreleased archive of recordings--next in line to be released are three volumes of songs/recordings from the year 2004. Publishes poems in journals; in 2012 published a chapbook called In Order to Commit Suicide. Has a BA from Yale, a MA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from UC-Davis, and is writing his PhD dissertation at UCLA.
