Biography

Stephen Light is the former keyboardist, trombonist, and programmer of Brooklyn, NYC's "2 Skinnee J's" - a live new wave hip-hop band that dominated the underground music scene on the East Coast and Midwest from 1991 - 2003. An original blend of urban rhythms, leftist political philosophy, and circus like spectacle, they rocked audiences starting in small clubs, and eventually headlined major national tours, getting signed by Capricorn Records (Cake, 311) and finally Jive/Volcano (Tool). The music of 2SJ was featured in a variety of films including, "Boys & Girls" and "Never Been Kissed", used by the World Wrestling Federation, and was the subject of several documentaries. After 9 years of touring with 2SJ, the band went on hiatus in 2003 and Stephen moved to Los Angeles to pursue film and TV scoring. One of the creative forces behind the writing and production of the eclectic music for 2SJ, Stephen works on a wide range of projects. With roots in the percussive beat driven NYC underground music of the '90s he has branched out into straight contemporary score with emotionally driven ambient blends of layered sounds woven into projects that allow an experimental edge, such as the film "Ice Cream Ants" (2006), but also have a place with the more straight forward approach of the feature comedy, "After Sex" (2006). He resides in the Hollywood Hills with his wife writer/actor/director Natalie Light.
