Scott Hettrick created the DVD Exclusive Awards and was producer of the December 2003 primetime special on FX from Dick Clark Prods. The home entertainment editor of Daily Variety, editor-in-chief of Video Business, syndicated columnist for Tribune/L.A. Times, and former reporter at The Hollywood Reporter, is also the founder of Hollywood trade magazine DVD Exclusive.
Hettrick, a frequently featured industry expert on TV programs and in national newspapers, has coined and helped popularize now-common terms in the industry such as "Digital Video Recorder (DVR)" and "Video Premiere movies" / "DVD Premiere movies." He has also established many industry firsts and now-entrenched reporting practices such as combined consumer spending on the rental and purchase of home video programming and studio market-share, and total viewers of a cable program rather than ratings.
A native of Philadelphia and longtime resident of Independence, Missouri, who moved to Los Angeles in 1991, Hettrick has reviewed more than 5,000 movies, TV programs, videos/DVDs and videogames for newspapers, magazines and cable shows. He created the Kansas City Star newspaper's first two weekly home video review columns from 1987 - 1992 and the first weekly cable program and videogame review columns for the Independence (Mo.) Examiner from 1982-1985. As production director at Landmark Cablevision, Hettrick wrote, produced and hosted several weekly local cable TV programs on movies, entertainment and local affairs from 1978 - 1981 before becoming public relations director and later system manager.
