London-based film director Werner Schumann has an Italian/German background. He studied photography, screenwriting, editing and film production. Schumann started his career directing experimental short films in super 8 in Brazil where he grew up. He directed the short film "Pioneers of Cinema" (1995), winner of the Golden Tatu for "Best Fiction" at the XXI International Bahia Film Festival. He directed the feature films "Sun in the Mist" (2007), winner of the TVE Awards at the San Sebastian International Film Festival; "O Coro" (2010) which premiered at the prestigious Mar Del Plata Film Festival, and won the "Best Director" Award at the 21st Ibero-American Cine Ceara Film Festival in Brazil. He also directed the feature film "Absolution" (2015) distributed in several countries. Recently he directed the drama-comedy "The Year of the Soul" (2021) and the drama-thriller "The Widow's Moon" to premiere in the USA in 2022. Schumann is a member of Directors UK, the professional association for British film and television directors and was founder Board Member of the Directors Charitable Foundation in London. He is also member of Cannes' Producers Network.
