Biography

An award winning composer, Tom McLeod's dynamic musical background spans many worlds, bringing a diverse range of influences to his work in film and television, theatre and orchestral projects. After graduating from the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington, where he majored in jazz piano, Tom spent several years performing at festivals around NZ with his Las Vegas comic persona Tommy Love and the Loungerillo Orchestra, before going to work producing music for TV. Cutting his teeth on live talent shows, Tom discovered a passion for composing and arranging. Tom has since composed numerous film and television scores, and writes songs for film, as well as stage musicals. He also co-wrote a musical comedy drama series and pilot episode. In 2015 Tom won the "APRA Best Original Music in a series" award at the APRA Silver Scrolls for the second year running with TV show Girl Vs Boy. In 2016 he was a finalist again in the feature film category with his score for The Art Of Recovery. His recent work includes the score for comedy feature film DEAD (with composer Jimmy Urine), the feature documentaries Camino Skies and Pecking Order, as well as family film Kiwi Christmas. Tom's score for the 3D feature Into The Rainbow was recorded with Filmorchester Babelsberg in Berlin and mixed by Grammy Award winning music producer Matt Howe in Doha. Other work includes scoring the 6-part TV drama series When We Go To War, feature films Netherwood and 3 Mile Limit (nominated for Best Score at the NZ Film Awards), and acclaimed feature documentaries The Last Dogs Of Winter, Candyman and Lost In Wonderland. He has scored several telefeatures for German network ZDF produced by Polyphon, as well as NZ television series' The Killian Curse, Amazing Extraordinary Friends, Secret Agent Men, and the musical drama series Karaoke High. Tom has collaborated with many leading New Zealand recording artists, including composer/lyricist Tim Finn, The Phoenix Foundation and Louis Baker. He has also produced and arranged albums such as Tim Beveridge's Come Rain Come Shine for Sony Music (recorded with the Buddy Childers Big Band in Los Angeles), and The Spirit Symphony with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
