A native of Andover, Massachusetts, James currently lives and works in the Boston area. He is the son of Donna and James J. Shay and brother of Mary-Ellen Shay. As a youth, James attended parochial schools. At age seven, he was diagnosed with a life threatening illness, Reye's Syndrome, for which there is no cure or treatment to date. Shortly after entering a coma, the last stage of the illness, James recovered quickly and remarkably well. When he was ten years of age, he began to study the piano and at age 12 was accepted into the prep division of the prestigious New England Conservatory of music in Boston, MA. At NEC he studied with two different piano masters, one for classical and the other for jazz. In addtion to lessons, he honed his skills in music theory and composition. He performed his first solo recital in Williams Hall at NEC at 14. In 1991, James graduated from the prestigious prep school, Choate Rosemary Hall, in Wallingford, Connecticut with special honors in music. He matriculated to Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and completed his studies there in 1995 with a degree in philosophy. His deep love of philosophy and theology led him to complete a Master of Divinity degree over the next several years. In 2002, James began working on the film Little Erin Merryweather as an assistant producer. After having successfully assisted in the post-production phase of the film, he was later elevated to the title of producer and vice president of Three Stone Pictures, Inc. James continutes to play piano and compose music. He also plans to continue producing films and hopes to compose film scores.
