Claus Borre

Biography

Claus Borre is one of the best-known faces of Danish sports journalism. Born in 1944, he grew up as the son of divorced parents and had to learn to take care of himself and make his own decisions. Though it was against his father's wishes, he became a journalist, training at Helsingør Dagblad between 1964 and 1967. He worked for Ritzaus Bureau press agency from 1967 to 1968, then became a sports reporter for national newspaper Berlingske Tidende from 1968 to 1977. He then turned to television to work as a sports journalist for Danmarks Radio, where he remains one of the station's top profiles. He originally had no intention of being on screen as anything but a commentator, but he eventually became a sports news anchor and presenter of many major events. Along with Jørgen Steen Nielsen he founded the successful "Sportslørdag" programmes, based on the "Grandstand" format from the BBC, and later on he was one of the people behind DR's annual sports shows (Sport2003 (2003), etc.) Claus Borre has also commentated a multitude of events including boxing, football and Formula One and has held various management and editorial positions. He is married for the second time and has four children, two from each marriage.
