Biography

Smoluk became the youngest filmmaker ever to be selected to the National Screen Institute(NSI) of Canada's Features First Program. NSI is the Canada's oldest recognized film and television training school. Smoluk studied Theatre on a scholarship at The British American Drama Academy at Oxford University. After producing and directing several stage productions, Smoluk made his debut feature film, "Horse Thieves". Completed on a shoestring budget, the film was a surprise winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2005 Winnipeg International Film Festival. His second feature film, "Foodland" was acquired by Super Channel and Shaw Communications. Super Channel, Canada's only national English pay television network, premiered Foodland in October 2011. The network profiled the film in the Super Channel Gems selections for critically acclaimed independent films. Foodland premiered on the Independent Film Channel(IFC) in March 2014.
