Andrew Gunn is an award-winning UK film and television director, writer and occasional producer of high-end drama, comedy, short films and commercials. Coming from an early background in cinematography he has directed some of the most high-profile British dramas of recent years, working with high calibre actors, Academy Award nominees and BAFTA award-winners. Amongst his collaborators are Andy Serkis, Matt Smith, Imelda Staunton, David Morrissey, John Simm, Philip Glenister, Ian Puleston-Davies, Stephen Tompkinson, Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig.
His work includes the cult BAFTA-winning cult sitcom Green Wing for which he created the signature visual style which defined the show. His 'Camberwick Green' episode of the Emmy-winning Life on Mars delighted fans and attracted exceptionally high viewing figures.
For Matt Smith's first outing as Doctor Who, Academy Award nominee Sophie Okonedo joined Andrew in one of two gripping and critically praised episodes. Audience favourite Victory of the Daleks made British television history with the inception of the brand-new über Daleks. Andrew also directed the feature-length adaptation of David Almond's CLAY for the BBC, starring Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner Imelda Staunton.
His series credits include the BBC's post-apocalyptic thriller Survivors, Cape Wrath starring David Morrissey for Channel Four and Showtime, Wild at Heart starring Stephen Tompkinson and the popular action-adventure Primeval.
More recently Andrew directed, produced and co-wrote The Caravan, a genre-bending trilogy of shorts that encompass thriller, human drama and ultra-dark comedy. Ian Puleston-Davies and David Warner star.
Born in Staffordshire, he grew up in the North East of England and attended film school in Surrey. He has won several awards for his short films at home and at international film festivals, including two Royal Television Society awards.
