Brian Barrale

Biography

Brian Barrale grew up in the small rural town of Barnhart, Missouri - located just south of St. Louis. A few miles down the road you'll find Pevely, a tiny truck-stop town where the local area entertainment is highlighted by the state's largest outdoor flea market as well as weekly dirt track auto racing. Brian's grandmother helped nurture his creativity through the arts and encouraged him to pursue music at a young age. She introduced him to blues, R & B, jazz, and soul. Brian then taught himself to play piano by the age of nine, clarinet by eleven, and saxophone by age thirteen. He spent the early part of his high school years learning music theory and orchestration on his own, applying his new skills by arranging for his high school's jazz band and pep band. At age sixteen, Brian began performing in blues bars and night clubs throughout downtown St. Louis and surrounding areas. The following year, he and his blues-rock band were featured in the annual St. Louis Blues Heritage Festival along with countless blues legends from all over the country. Brian remained active in several other bands while in high school, including one of St. Louis' diverse and eclectic favorites - Sacred Sects. The female-fronted group performed regularly at night clubs along St. Louis' Laclede's Landing Riverfront. Later renamed as "Blush" the band performed as the headlining act at the annual St. Louis First Night New Year's Eve Celebration. Immediately following high school graduation, Brian began his professional career by performing as keyboardist for Marty Balin - singer and songwriter from the legendary 1960's psychedelic rock band, Jefferson Airplane. The national tour sent young eighteen-year-old Brian to perform in casinos, festivals, amphitheaters, as well as Disneyland. After a year of touring with Balin, Brian studied music production and engineering with his first industry mentor, Rich Landers. He then continued his studies in audio production at Webster University in St. Louis, and later in music technology and composition at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Brian now resides in Los Angeles and is a working composer and arranger. His credits include feature films, videogames, film and television documentaries, radio and television commercials, websites, and dozens of student films and animations.
