Biography

Jack Arthur was born Arthur E. Campbell in Brooklyn, New York. He became a singer-performer on stage, appearing in the Ziegfeld Follies, and during the 1930's was often referred to in newspapers as a popular "radio baritone." He toured, was in stage shows, emceed events both live and on the radio, and both acted or was the narrator for a radio programs. He also sang and acted in a few short films. In 1936 a newspaper column indicated he also once performed under the name Johnny Hart. In his private life he maintained his birth name. A 1939 ship's passenger lists found him traveling as Arthur Campbell 39, with wife Elizabeth, 34, daughter Jean, 11, and son Raymond 10. Their home address was given as radio station W.O.R. in New York City. Arthur E. Campbell (Jack Arthur) died in Dade County, Florida on October 16, 1980.
