Biography

Shereen Noon, director and producer grew up in Illinois, Michigan, and Pakistan. Born to a Swedish and Dutch mother and a Pakistani father, she attended California State University, Long Beach, and began working in films and television in 1993, gaining global recognition for directing the Elemental Films® documentary, "Body: The Value of Women" in 2000, an analysis of body image and self-esteem in the U.S. (2013) Noon directed her second feature documentary, "Unleaded: What the American Heart Association Won't Tell You About Heart Disease". (1999-2011) Shereen worked for CAA, Disney Animation and Theatrical, Warner Brothers, and Paramount Pictures in various administrative positions while writing screenplays. (1998) Noon co-produced the independent feature, "Paper, Rock, Scissors" directed by Tim Rosenow. (2001) Noon founded Tano Media Institute, along with co-founders Maija Beeton, Elizabeth Jarosz, Shelley Siegel, and Fiona McIntyre. "The Storycoach" Patrick Horton, Ph.D., Tano Media Institute became a cutting edge educational program that trained women screenwriters from around the world to develop and powerfully express their unique voices and artistic visions, increasing their ability to tell lasting stories and make significant films. (2000) On Cement, Noon was a set production assistant, directed by Adrian Pasdar. (1999) Noon was also the Founder of Independent Women Filmmakers, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization of international women filmmakers in all facets of the industry unified to support each other in succeeding in entertainment. Independent Women Filmmakers had no political agendas nor barriers to entry and was supportive to all women in film and television. It was formed during the 1999 Sundance Film Festival in response to the dearth of support for indie women, even by Sundance at that time. Shereen initiated talks to collaborate with Sundance to bring more attention to women filmmakers. Consequently, Sundance Film Festival's Geoff Gilmore programmed a festival with the theme of "women filmmakers." (2018) Shereen Noon lives and works in television and film in New Mexico.
