Biography

Dana Thomas is the author of Gods and Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano and the New York Times bestseller Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster, both published by Penguin Press. She is a regular contributor to The New York Times, and wrote the screenplay for Luca Guadagnino's documentary, Salvatore Ferragamo: The Shoemaker of Dreams, to be released in September 2019. She began her career writing for the Style section of The Washington Post in Washington, D.C. and from 1995 to 2011, she served as the European Arts & Entertainment Correspondent for Newsweek in Paris. She has written for the New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, WSJ, the Financial Times, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Architectural Digest and Elle Decor and was the European Editor of Condé Nast Portfolio. In 1987, she received the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation Scholarship and the Ellis Haller Award for Outstanding Achievement in Journalism. In 2016, France's Minister of Culture bestowed upon Thomas the honor of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters). In 2017, she was a Logan Nonfiction Fellow at the Carey Institute for Global Good. Thomas is a member of the Anglo-American Press Association in Paris and the Overseas Press Club. Her forthcoming book, Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion-And the Future of Clothes, will be published in September 2019 by The Penguin Press.
