Biography

Between 1965 and 1985, Paul-Louis Martin worked almost exclusively in the movie industry. Critique for Les Cahiers du Cinéma, Assistant-Director for Luc Moullet and Gérard Blain. Well-known as an actor (Le Beau Serge, Hatari, l'Ami Américain), Gérard Blain also was a very demanding director from the aesthetic as well as from the ethical point of view. Paul-Louis Martin assisted him in two of his movies: Le Pélican and Un Enfant dans la foule. In Le Pélican Martin's work was made harder by the fact that Blain was himself acting in the main role. Screenwriter of a number of short and full-length movies amongst other: L'Accordéon des Rois (co-director Odile Vacher) 1971 Deux Femmes de Bien (awarded at the Centre National de Cinématographie) 1973 La Rivière et l'Enfant (broadcasted by FR3) 1976 Au Pays Natal, experimental movie 1969 Un Aventurier Nommé Godin (broadcasted on FR3 in March 1985). This movie is an historical reconstruction. It narrates the life of a XIX industrial (inventor of the Godin stove).
