Biography

Italian born Alfie Zappacosta been a resident of Canada since he was 6 months old. Musically, he began his career in the late 70s as a founding member of Canadian rock band Surrender scoring two successful 1981 singles with 'It's All Been Done Before' and 'Start Again' on Capitol Records. When Capitol rejected the 2nd planned Surrender album, Zappacosta began selling himself as a solo act. This sparked re-interest in the Surrender follow-up album, and the result became the self-titled 'Zappacosta' 1984. The album ignited two Canadian hits with Passion and the chart topping We Should Be Lovers. This success earned him a 1985 Juno award for 'most promising new male vocalist'. Following his appearance on the 1986 Northern Lights benefit song 'Tears Are Not Enough', he released his second solo album 'A-Z' which featured the mega smash hit 'Nothing Could Stand in Your Way'. Zappacosta continued to record in the 80s, 90s, and 00s but never quite duplicated the success that he had in the early 80s.
