Kenneth Lockwood

Biography

A London stockbroker in civilian life, Captain Kenneth Lockwood of the 22nd London Regiment (Queen's Royal West Surreys) was captured at Dunkirk and spent virtually the whole of the war in confinement by the Germans, primarily at the infamous Colditz Castle. He was involved in countless escape attempts throughout his stay in Colditz and other prisons but, although successful in facilitating the escape of other prisoners, he had to wait to be liberated by the U.S. Army. After the end of the war, Lockwood became the honorary secretary of the Colditz Association, made up of former prisoners, and as secretary, he kept in touch with hundreds of his comrades and was charged by them to insure that the truth be told about Colditz and the bravery of its inmates.
