Howie Steindler

Biography

He was the owner/proprietor of the famous Main Street Gym in Los Angeles, and appeared in other films, I think. His funeral was on March 13, 1977 and Sugar Ray Robinson spoke that day. Howie was the manager of boxer Danny 'Little Red' Lopez who had recently won a championship prior to Howie's death. It's still an unsolved crime. Howie was the inspiration for the character portrayed by Burgess Meredith in the movie Rocky (1976).
