Jason P. Hunt was born in West Monroe, Louisiana, and grew up in Irving, Texas, just outside of Dallas.
After a relatively normal childhood, Hunt attended college at Oklahoma Christian University, where he studied radio and television. In 1989, he saw the re-released "Lawrence of Arabia" in the theater and decided to study film. In 1990, he transferred to the University of North Texas, where he studied with Fred P. Watkins. After working on several short films and two features, Hunt moved to Kansas City in 1994. Married in 1995, he began producing television commercials at ABC affiliate KQTV in St. Joseph, Missouri.
In 2000, Hunt's first son, Devin, was born. However, due to complications from being premature, Devin passed away after two days. This and other personal events led to Hunt's returning to college to complete his degree, which he finally did in December 2005, receiving a BA in Communication Studies at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
In 2002, Hunt's second son, James, was born. He has become a contributor to story ideas.
In 2005, Hunt wrote and produced his first short film in almost a decade - "El Baile de Disculpa (The Apology Dance)" - as an assignment for a film production class. This was soon followed by "Vanguard Dispatch", which was submitted to the first short film competition hosted by the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle, Washington.
Early in 2007, Hunt's film "Species Felis Dominarus" was a finalist in the SciFi Channel's Exposure contest, and was aired on the network as part of the 90-minute "Exposure" special.
Besides film production, Hunt produces television commercials at Kansas City CW affiliate KCWE and freelances as a photographer and videographer.
