While in film school Van completed two animated shorts "Wild Card" and "Values", which were screened at over sixty film festivals. Both films also screened at the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater and won numerous awards, including two Student Emmys in 1999 and 2001. "Values" also won Best Animated Short at SIGGRAPH, which qualified it for the 2001 Academy Awards. Recently both of Van's films had the honor of being screened at the Classic USC shorts program alongside George Lucas' and Robert Zemeskis's student films.
Van has worked as an animator, previs artist and designer for films and games produced by Dreamworks, Sony Imageworks, Digital Domain, The Third Floor , Halon Studios, Activision, Zynga, Naughty Dog, 2K, ILM and Blue Sky Studios. Van's breath of experience in different industries and roles allows him to bring fresh innovative solutions to create "WOW" moments. His experience allows him solve technical and creative issues. He has animated key characters, shots and sequences on billion dollar projects.
Along with production work , Van enjoys sharing his insights by helping students discover their own AHA moments. He as taught or has been a guest speaker at Cal Arts, USC film school, UCLA, Academy of Art University, De Anza College, Pratt, Ringling School of Art , SCAD, General Assembly, and Stanford University. Van also has volunteered his time to SIGGRAPH and the Las Vegas Downtown Project and various High Schools in the Bay area.
