David Tynan

Biography

David Tynan has been a member in good standing of the Writers Guild of Canada and the Writers Guild of America for over twenty years, and during this period, he has written over 50 original one-hour episodes for series television. With credits from Highlander, Flash Gordon, First Wave, Poltergeist: The Legacy, Scene of the Crime, and several other productions, he was recognized by the WGC in 1996 with the first Leo Award for Best Screenwriter - Dramatic Television Series. Born and raised on the west coast of BC, David felt strongly about building the Canadian television industry. Over his career, he turned down repeated offers that would have required him to move to Los Angeles in order to stay close to his family. Sadly, David's career was shortened when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2008 - shortly after wrapping Flash Gordon. After nearly six years of fighting, he passed away on November 11th, 2013. In accordance with his wishes, he passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family. It is worthwhile to mention that David survived longer than 97% of others with his particular form of cancer, a testament to how much he loved life and a constant (and pleasant) surprise for the doctors in the medical field. David showed exceptional bravery, perseverance, and good humour throughout his illness, and he shall be sorely missed.
