His teachers had been Emile Darrs, Henri Rollan and Marcelle Géniat. He debuted at the Théâtre Antoine in July 1948 in Terence Rattigan's "L'écurie Watson". His first success came the following year thanks to his performance in André Roussin's hit play "Les oeufs de l'autruche". He had two good roles in Decoin's "Au grand balcon" and in Léo Joannon's "Le 84 prend des vacances", another interesting one in Cayatte's drama "Avant le déluge". And then almost nothing.
