Melissa R. Randel is an accomplished actor, dancer, director, choreographer, theatre-maker, and educator. Most recently, Melissa starred as Stephanie Vorlicky in Suzanne Bradbeer's new play, Confederates, Silver Medallion winner of the Moss Hart Kitty Carlisle Hart New Play Initiative, at the Grove Theatre Center in Burbank.
Melissa began her career on Broadway, giving more than 2000 performances as Judy Turner in Michael Bennett's A Chorus Line. The groundbreaking theatricality of A Chorus Line honed her taste for the world of experimental theatre: physical theatre, dance/theatre, and devised theatre making.
Through the alchemy and merging of commercial Broadway and physical theatre aesthetics, Melissa forged The Hat, a complex, dreamlike narrative exploring love, loss, and the dynamics of abuse. Featuring a unique conversation between a trombone player and a dancer, productions of The Hat have moved audiences on both coasts and internationally. Other original devised collaborations include: Asylum, This is NOT a Tree, We are Stardust, Wonder City, and Esprit de Corps.
Melissa's goal in theatre-making is to unite the exquisite world of the body with the irreconcilable complexity of the heart. Melissa is a proud member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA. www.leapinthedarkproductions.com
