Lili Rademakers

Biography

Born Alma Veenman in Utrecht in 1930, Lili Rademakers married Fons Rademakers, the Netherlands' most prominent filmmaker and assisted him both in real life (she is the mother of Fons and Alfred, their two sons) and in artistic life (she served as his assistant-director for several of his movies). She also directed two films herself, both co-produced by her husband. "Menuet" (1982), was awarded the best first film prize that same year and earned another award the following year at the International Critics' Week in Cannes. Her second work "Dagboek van een oude dwaas" (Diary of an Old Madman) was made in Belgium four years later. Adapted from a Japanese novel by Tanizaki, this cruel tale examines the erotic passion of an old man close to death for his daughter-in-law.
