Günter Schaumburg

Günter Schaumburg was born on January 1st. 1943 in Erfurt, the former GDR. He studied journalism, sports and germanistics and worked as a teacher. He was a very famous discus thrower of his time and was amongst the Olympic team of the GDR in Mexico 1968 where he reached the 10th place. In 1965 he married Hannelore Schaumburg, with which he has two children, Heike and Patrick. Meanwhile he is a grandfather of four children. He was a dissident in the GDR and had to leave his home country in 1989 with his family, only a few months before the GDR cheased to exist.
