He appeared on Broadway in Peter Hall's production of 'The Homecoming' then had a 21 year association with The National Theatre appearing in 'State of the Revolution', 'Waiting For Godot', 'Macbeth', 'The Cherry Orchard' 'Richard III and won The Terence Derwent Award for his performance as Dr Relling in 'The Wild Duck'. His television work includes P.C. Snow in 'Softly Softly', 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, 'Edward and Mrs. Simpson', 'The Biederbeck Affair', 'Lovejoy' and 'Our Friends in the North'. while films include 'Get Carter', 'The Dogs of War', 'Scandal' and 'Funny Bones'.
