Al Rex

Biography

Al Rex became the bass player for Bill Haley and the Saddlemen in 1949, and was also a featured vocalist and comedian with the group. Soon after recording "Rocket 88" with the band in 1951, Rex quit to pursue a solo career. In 1955 he was invited to join Bill Haley and the Comets to replace bass player Marshall Lytle. Rex appeared in two movies with the band before he quit in 1958. He continued to perform and record as a solo artist, and in the late 1970s he ran a group called Al Rex and the Sound of Haley's Comets.
