Walter Michiels

Biography

Walter Michiels is a Flemish actor, best remembered in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium for creating a myth as well as for leaving a certain legacy behind as one of the supporting pillars for the early popularity of the Flemish long-running sitcom F.C. De Kampioenen (1990), before infamously falling upon hard times due to an alcohol addiction and subsequent mental problems as a result of which Michiels lost all his local fame and fortune. Considered a promising Flemish actor in the early 1990s, establishing himself alongside male contemporaries Koen De Bouw, Filip Peeters and Michael Pas, he is perhaps best remembered as arguably the most wasted acting talent while now living fairly at the bottom of society. Michiels played Pico Coppens in the sitcom F.C. De Kampioenen during the early stages of the show, until 1993. He was infamously fired after conclusion of the fourth season. His portrayal of the character Pico Coppens (a role that was actually given to Peter van Asbroeck at first, who reportedly was unable to play the character due to physical problems at the time, after which Michiels was cast) would eventually become his only significant work.
