Born in Rome, Italy, in 1938, mezzo-soprano Franca Mattiucci made her operatic debut in 1963 singing Mozart's "Così fan tutte" in Spoleto. Her career developed later with appearances at La Scala (where she made her debut in 1969 in Verdi's "Don Carlo" under the baton of Claudio Abbado, regularly returning to the Milanese theatre until 1977), Arena di Verona, as well as at the opera houses of Rome, Naples, Venice, Parma, Turin, Madrid, Barcelona, Monte-Carlo, Vienna, Hamburg, Chicago, Buenos Aires a. o. She retired from the stage in 1987, devoting herself to teaching. Among her pupils there are Marcelo Álvarez, Francesco Meli, Linda Campanella, Tatiana Serjan, Erwin Schrott, Sandro Naglia, Matteo Peirone.
