Entered the Seminary of Morelia in 1897 and was ordained in November 20th, 1904. Professor and vice-rector of the seminary of the archdiocese of Michoacan, served as canon priest and administrator of Chilpancigo-Chilapa diocese after it became vacant in 1922. In 1923 was designated auxiliary bishop of Michoacan, and coadjutor in 1934. Was elected in 1937 as archbishop of Mexico. Died in the homonymous city as its archbishop and primate bishop of the country in 1956.
