Biography

Manhães Marins, graduated by Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ in 1979, works for Líder Cine Laboratórios as well as for Globo TV Network (Rio de Janeiro and London's stations). He attends Cinema courses at British Film Institute and at the University of London in 1984 with masters Bruce Carson MA and 'Robert Murphy' MA. Back to Brazil, he studies with film maker Pedro Camargo (Amor e Traição, A Pele do Bicho) in a course of "Actors for Filming". He is elected member-director of Association of Brazilian Documentarists (ABD) and of Corcina - a cooperative of independent film makers. He writes and directs Sociedade, Sociedade (1980), (with professional actors Antônio de Bônis and Dione Miranda - fiction-Agedor), João e a Sinuca Brasileira (1982) (documentary-Agedor), Alta Rotação (1987) (with Othon Bastos - main actor of "Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol" and Cássia Kis, having as director of photography Walter Carvalho- fiction-Fibra Cine Video), "Usem a Interação Universidade Empresa" (documentary-Fibra Cine Video) and directs many videos for UFRJ, MPM Advertizing Co. and Centro Brasileiro dos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente (A children rights' defense center). He directs the fiction film Chateaubriand - Cabeça de Paraíba (2000) in 2000. By the end of this year he is one of the 29 founders of CBC - Congress of Brazilian Cinema, an entity to unite 54 professionals and enterprises' associations. He represents the forum CinemaBrasil with more than 2000 members in permanent debates. In 2006, he exhibits his movie Memórias da Chibata (2006) which gives him several awards. At the end of 2007, he makes the documentary Chateaubriand - The father of Brazilian Television, 9 exclusive interviews with people who lived with the Brazilian "Citizen Kane", not exhibited yet. In 2008 is carrying on his project Chibata - the life of João Cândido, about the leader of Chibata Rebellion in Brazilian Old Navy against the use of the whip over sailors 22 years after the end of slavery. He is also now Counsellor of CBC.
