Daniel S. Malmuth (also credited as Dan Malmuth, or Danny Malmuth), was born in New York City on December 9, 1944 to Selma Malmuth, a landscape/portrait artist, and Jacob Malmuth, an insurance lawyer; he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the City University of New York, in Political Science and English Literature, followed by graduate study in Law; his film work started in the 1960's in New York City as a film editor and production manager on independent feature films, television and news shows, and advertising campaigns, leading to a move to Hollywood in the 1970's, where he produced television series for Universal TV, and joined the feature film division of Columbia Pictures as an assistant director; he is the author of numerous articles on film production and advertising, and many screenplays (including Bill "Bojangles" Robinson: Joy and Sorrow). Malmuth has appeared as an actor in a number of feature films and television shows. He is also a sailor, whose yacht the Aquaventurer is based at Marina del Rey, CA.
