Ryan Michelle was born on 19th September 1981 (also her mother's birth date) in Redlands, California to Randy and Tammi Lunsford. She has a younger sister McKenna and a younger brother Erik-Scott. Her parents (believing she was the cutest, brightest child ever) had a portfolio created when she was 3 years old in the hopes of getting her some work in commercials as a way of saving for her college education. Both parents had acted in plays during their own college years. Within 1 week of submission of photos to agents she was asked to come to a call for the ABC Monday Night Movie Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter (1984)starring Jeff Goldblum, Cloris Leachman, Melody Anderson, Madolyn Smith-Osborne, Soleil Moon Frye, et al, where she was given the part of Kippy Kovacs #1. Soon after she was asked to be the poster child for a major health center campaign, but she said she 'didn't want to'. Her parents had decided not be 'stage' parents and respected her wishes. She attended several grades schools around southern and central California. She graduated from Loma Linda Academy, Loma Linda, California after two years with honors, while taking both her Sophomore and Junior years at the same time. During High School she performed in numerous skits and one play.
She attended Walla Walla College in College Place, Washington, graduating Cum Laude in 2003 with a Degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. During her College years she was given major parts/leads during each of her four years there. In her Freshman year she was chosen to perform in a newly organized Improv group entitled Improv Church, developed by the Campus Pastor. This group performed weekly at a community center in nearby Walla Walla, Washington. She was also chosen to be a part of a smaller troupe of the Improv Church group, which performed for various grade school, high school, Collegiate and adult gatherings throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California. This smaller troupe helped raise funds via their performances to support the Improv group. She was the group leader the last two years of her college career. She was also active in campus leadership as co-Social Vice-President in her senior year. After graduation she was accepted into a Masters program in Bio-Ethics at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California. She applied and was accepted to more than one Medical School and choose to attend the University of Washington in Seattle as a freshman in September 2004. She is also a part-time participant in an Improv outreach group supported by a local Seattle church which has brought three other members of the collegiate Improv group she helped develop starting in their freshman Year of College.
