Jorge Olguín

Jorge Olguín is a Chilean director considered a pioneer of the fantasy and terror genre in Chile and Latin America. He made his feature directorial debut with Ángel negro (2000) , a slasher movie with a budget of $ 25,000, made when he was a university student. The film became a blockbuster and was credited as the first Chilean horror film. Then he made the first special effects film in Chile, Eternal Blood (2002) , the film again achieved commercial success in theaters and has become an international cult movie. In 2006 he began to develop a film about monsters and marine beings of Chilean mythology Caleuche: El llamado del Mar (2012) and at the same time Jorge Olguín was summoned by a North American company to direct an adaptation of the Playstation video game "Clocktower". But both projects was frozen by their respective producing companies. So 2008 premieres an experimental zombie movie made with a digital home-video camera in 7 days, Descendents (2007) the first Chilean zombie movie. The film is released in cinemas in Chile and the company Lionsgate distributes it on DVD in the United States. Olguín then resumes his project based on monsters and Chilean marine beings, in co-production with Miravista (Disney Brasil). The film was premieres in 2012 achieving good reception of the public in chilean cinemas and in the criticism. Later Olguín wins the National Fund for Film in Chile to produce the first Chilean fiction film in 3D Whispers of the Forest (2014), a horror and fantasy film again inspired by Chilean mythology. Then he co-produces and directs Cuenta la Leyenda (2017). An animated series of horror stories for children, awarded by the National Council of television in Chile and that became a phenomenon on YouTube. His latest film The House (2019), produced in 2019, is inspired by real events about one of the houses with more paranormal cases in Chile.
