Biography

A lauded screenwriter and filmmaker, Monice Mitchell Simms is a 2019 Producers Guild of America Diversity alumnae that has written, produced and directed the award winning films, "Carmin's Choice" and "Rain" for Showtime. Her films and scripts placing in top-tiered competitions, such as the Hollywood Black Film Festival, The Chesterfield Writer's Film Project and the Austin Film Festival, Monice has also helmed multiple documentary projects for Verizon, The Los Angeles Urban League, and she wrote, directed and produced the documentary, "Keeping the Faith" on the career of broadcaster, Tavis Smiley. Monice is also a former journalist and celebrated author. She penned and produced an Ear Movie of her historical fiction novel, "Address: House of Corrections," and published the children's book, "Nana's Fridge." Holding a BA in journalism from Wayne State University, Monice also earned a MFA in from Columbia College Chicago and is pursuing a Doctorate degree in Sociology.
