Biography

Lars-Eric August Kjellgren, born August 28, 1918, in Arvika, Sweden, was a director and writer. He was hired by SF (Svensk Filmindustri) in 1942 as a writer. At SF he worked with directors like Ingmar Bergman, Alf Sjöberg, Gustaf Molander and with actor/director Nils Poppe. Lars-Eric Kjellgren debuted as technical film director in 1946, and artistic film director 1947. He was a significant and powerful director with great passion for social justice. During the fifties, he made a number of films about social problems and juvenile delinquency. "Nattens Ljus/ Nighttime Light" (1957) is perhaps one of his most celebrated productions. "Natten Ljus" was nominated for the Golden Lion award at Venivce Film Festival 1957. Lars-Eric Kjellgren directed 20 feature films from 1946 to 1961. He passed away on February 10, 2003, in Stockholm, Sweden.
