Michael Kennedy is an award-winning, genre-jumping director with a reputation for creating stylish work that addresses social issues while achieving critical and commercial success. He has directed 16 feature-length films/TV movies and over 230 episodes of prime-time TV drama and comedy including every episode of the first season of the ground-breaking "Little Mosque On The Prairie". He was recently nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction, TV Movie for "#Roxie", also nominated for Best TV Movie. Co-winner of the CSA Award for Outstanding Contribution Film and Television Diversity.
Michael is often brought in early to help develop a new TV series. Besides the pilot of "Little Mosque..." he also directed the first episodes filmed and/or aired of "Pure Pwnage", "Delmer and Marta", "North South", "Mental Block", "Listen Missie", "Screech Owls", "P.R.", "Taking The Falls", "My Life and a Movie", "The Good Germany", "This Space For Rent" and "Jets". He was also one of the directors of the acclaimed comedy series "Kids In The Hall" and directed 14 episodes of the award-winning "Made In Canada" series starring Rick Mercer.
His international reputation has led Michael to direct movies in many countries: Mexico, Belize, Germany, Hungary, India, the US, and across Canada. Michael also wrote the scripts for three of the feature films he directed.
Michael has received: 2 Directors Guild of Canada Awards from 8 nominations; a nomination for a Directors Guild of America Award; winner of Best Director at the Canadian Music Video Awards; 3 Best Director Gemini nominations; and 3 wins from 10 nominations for Best Director at the Canadian Comedy Awards.
