Peter Loewy is founder and Producing Artistic Director of The Forum Theatre Company, a professional regional theatre located in Metuchen, NJ. Mr. Loewy has directed and produced over 75 plays and musicals since founding he Forum Theatre in 1983. Mr. Loewy has worked extensively on Broadway with Tony award winning librettist, Michael Stewart and producer David Merrick on such shows as Barnum, Bring Back Birdie and 42nd Street. He also worked in television developing Unicorn Tales, an Emmy award winning musical children's theatre program for NBC and wrote and produced Dracula Bites The Big Apple, an award winning short subject film. Mr. Loewy has directed throughout the country with shows that include Little Shop of Horrors for TheatreFest and Crooners, a new musical , at the Phoenix Theatre in Arizona. He also produced and directed an East Coast tour of the musical Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh. Mr. Loewy most recently collaborated with John J. Wooten on a new play entitled Hannah Senesh, The Mission Home, based on the life of W.W. II freedom fighter Hanna Senesh. The play was commissioned by Mr. Loewy as well as produced and directed by him. The response has been overwhelming and plans are for the play to transfer to Broadway or off-Broadway in the Fall of 1999. This season he will be directing Last Night Of Ballyhoo at the Forum Theatre in Metuchen.
As a writer he has written the musical, The Kid From Brooklyn, The Danny Kaye Story, Mismatch, A Musical About Online Dating in the Middle Ages and most recently House On Haunted Hill, A Horror of A Comedy. Peter started as an assistant on Broadway to librettist Michael Stewart, where I learned the craft of writing on Barnum, 42nd St and Bring Back Birdie. Peter has also produced and directed over 100 shows across the country and in London.
Peter received his BA in Theater / Directing at New York University in 1981
