Biography

Pianist and composer Meade (Lux) Lewis was an entertainer in nightclubs and in concerts, at times with Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson, and he made a number of piano rolls and recordings. He is credited with popularizing boogie-woogie. Joining ASCAP in 1942, he composed the instrumentals "Yancey Special", "Honky Tonk Train Blues", "Six Wheel Chaser", "Yancey Goes Honky Tonk", "Bass on Top", "Bearcat Crawl", "Boogie Woogie Prayer", "Glendale Glide", "Boogie Tidal", "Lux Boogie", and "Rockin' the Clock".
