Biography

Big Band singer, a tenor; Leonard started off with Axel Stordahl and Joe Bauer in a group called the Three Esquires that appeared in venues in the greater New York metropolitan area; he joined the Tommy Dorsey band in 1937 and recorded over two hundred songs with Dorsey, including Irving Berlin's "Marie," for which he is best known. After going into the U.S. Army during World War II, he was replaced by Frank Sinatra. After his service, Leonard sang with the Ray Bloch Band, and for fifteen years worked for Nat King Cole as his personal manager. Leonard later entered the music publishing business.
