Sherif Laoun was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1959. He arrived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada with his family at the age of ten. By seven, Sherif Laoun was a voracious reader in French or English; short stories, novels, histories and biographies. Adolescent his two heroes were John F. Kennedy and Winston Churchill. Today, he admires beacons of non-violence such as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. Sherif Laoun is the father of two boys.
