After studying Philosophy & English at King's College, Cambridge, Richard worked at the BBC as a TV sound recordist. This led to a career as a freelance director, and then a move into full time screenwriting.
In 2013 he branched out into new areas, with a debut novel, Monkey Wars, which was longlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal, shortlisted for the UKLA Book Awards, and won its category at the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards.
