Biography

Her name means "The Girl From the Village (of Cazalla)". When she was a young girl she suffered a wrong medical treatment in her eyes after an infection and was left blind. When her family went to Madrid she began to learn singing Flamenco at the age of 8. She debuted in theaters in Seville in 1931 and the next year in Madrid, and soon recorded her first disc. In 1933 she debuted in movies with "Madre Alegria", and the next year she married popular singer Lucas Soto, "Luquitas de Marchena" (1913-1965) who appears with her in his last film "El alma de la copla" (1965).
