Biography

Composer ("Shiny Stockings"), arranger, saxophonist and publisher, educated at Wilberforce University. He was a saxophonist in the Detroit area between 1949 and 1951, then served in the US Army during the Korean War. In 1953, he joined the Count Basie orchestra as a saxophonist, composer and arranger, remaining until 1964. He also did freelance arranging and publishing. Joining ASCAP in 1960, his other popular-song and instrumental compositions include "Vested Interest", "May We", "Who, Me?", "Blues for Daddy-O" and "Blues in Hoss' Flat".
