Lina Cruz

Biography

Lina Cruz is a Colombian-born, Canadian choreographer. She was born in Cartagena, Colombia. She lived in Madrid, Spain, as of the age of 16, where she began training as a professional dancer. She came to Montreal in 1989, where she is dedicated to developing works in contemporary dance. Her works have received Dora Mavor Moore awards and nominations in various categories : Outstanding Original Choreography: award to Lina Cruz in 2017 for Ylem (3 Eggs Ago), award in 2012 for Soupe du Jour and nomination in 2015 for Waiting for a Sleepless Night Outstanding Original Sound/Composition: award to Philippe Noireaut in 2012 for Soupe du Jour and nomination in 2017 for Ylem (3 Eggs Ago) Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble: nomination to Throwdown Collective in 2017 for Ylem (E Eggs Ago) Outstanding Performance by a Dancer: award to Fabien Piché in 2015 for Waiting for a Sleepless Night Most of Cruz's works have premiered at Agora de la danse and Tangente, in Montreal, and toured thereafter.
