Brister lead the COVID shutdown and restart of the series "Welcome to the Blumhouse" for Amazon.
He helped develop the COVID safety protocols. His diligent approach gave the studio the confidence to restart production. "Welcome to the Blumhouse" was the very first show to resume production during COVID in New Orleans.
John Brister was also the UPM on "Green Book". He is one of the few working DGA UPM's to have overseen an Oscar winning Best Picture.
Recently, Brister was the UPM on the Universal Studios / Blumhouse production of "The Hunt".
Ethan Hawke relied on Brister's production expertise for "Blaze" and is working with him again on his upcoming production "Camino Real".
Brister was also the UPM on "Fighting with My Family" for MGM, and "Body Cam" for Paramount Players.
Previously, Brister was a senior production executive overseeing a large slate of films. His involvement included developing the screenplays, working with the sales agents, banks, and bond companies to complete the financing, creating budgets, negotiating actor, director, and union contracts, and overseeing production. Brister also supervised the post-production process, including delivery and the repayment of production loans.
John Brister grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. He graduated with a B.A. in history from U.C.L.A.
He is a member of the Director's Guild of America.
