Biography

James P. Blake was raised in Fair Lawn, NJ, a middle-class suburb of New York City. He received his B.A. degree in Philosophy from Brown University (Providence, RI) in 1979 with electives in film studies. He was awarded his Law Degree (J.D.) from UCLA School of Law (Los Angeles, CA) in 1983, with a concentration in entertainment/motion picture law and business. Mr. Blake formed and served as President/CEO of Trans-American Pictures Inc., a New York corporation engaged in the production and distribution of feature motion pictures. He produced, directed, and marketed the feature film, "The Contest", which enjoyed a worldwide theatrical release and appeared on Variety's "50 Top-Grossing Films" chart (August, 1980). A probing, satirical, behind-the-scenes look at a bizarre beauty pageant, the film received considerable critical acclaim for its humor and pathos as a candid slice of Americana. Settling in Hollywood/Los Angeles, CA, James Blake formed "American Independent Productions" and for the next several years embarked upon the development and promotion of various Film/TV/Video/Entertainment projects. Mr. Blake presently resides in Boca Raton, FL where he is an adjunct Professor at Palm Beach Community College (Department of Film/TV), Miami-Dade (School of Entertainment Technologies), and Lynn University (College of International Communications), while conducting research and writing.
