Emily Grigor recently graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BA of film production. She is possibly the only deaf student who is studying Cinematography as the Film Production Option. She always wanted to be a director ever since she moved to California from England in 2002. She had been chosen to act and dance in few musical plays such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, In the Heights, and High School Musical. Inspired by Harry Potter films, she took video production in high school and has done numerous directing music videos using American Sign Language. She has been writing scripts with her best friend during this time.
She has done a few projects at CSUN such as D.P. for "Esperanza", directed "Stranger Danger" and "Deaferent", and acted in "Emily". She also has also acted outside of CSUN. More recently, she has acted in a film called "Tuba Thieves". She worked in the ARRI room and knows the film equipment. She knows how cinematography tells a story due to lighting, camera movement, and composition. She does not want her deafness to stop her, and so she has figured out a way to work with hearing people while directing "Deaferent". She succeeded and she knows she cannot be stopped.
She hopes to spread deaf awareness and spread deaf talent. There are many deaf people out there who hope to be in a film crew and cast but rarely get picked. She wants to change that and CSUN is the only beginning of her journey. With that being said, she hopes to become a director, especially for musical and fantasy films, and an actress in the future.
She has experienced Director, Cinematographer, Gaffer, Dolly, and Actress.
