Nicole A. Watlington

Nicole Alexandra Watlington-Betancourt is a sound engineer and interdisciplinary writer born and raised in Puerto Rico. In just a few years, she has achieved a vast amount of experience by working with award-winning directors whose works have been screened in festivals all over the globe. Growing up, Nicole showed interest in music performance and composition. Her love for music made her want to pursue a career in sound engineering. As a Recording Arts student and long-time cinephile, she later realized that her true passion fell in sound for film. Eager to learn more and get involved in the film industry, she decided to move to New York City to pursue a second major in Culture and Media with a concentration in Screen Studies. In New York, she started her current audio postproduction freelance business that she ran while she studied. Her dedication to the industry helped her quickly make a name for herself as a rising talent. Now a full-time sound engineer, her credits range from features and documentaries to independent shorts and branding. She has experience working remotely as well as in state-of-the-art postproduction studios. Known for her ambition and strong determination, she believes in making the best of each project she works on. Watlington holds a BA in Screen Studies from Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School in New York City, where she wrote and directed her first short film titled Tea Party After Hours. She also holds BS in Recording Arts from Full Sail University, where she was also awarded the Course Director's Award for Advanced Audio Postproduction. In 2017, she spent a semester abroad in the UK, where she was able to study British and European Cinema at the prestigious King's College London. As of 2021, she's working towards an MA in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
