Bastien Alexandre was born in Montreal in 1977. His love of film, illustration, comic books and storytelling drew him to studies in graphic design and cinema. He began his career as a contract illustrator, storyboard artist and concept artist, lending his creativity to various entertainment and advertising enterprises.
In 2001, he began a collaboration of many years with world-renowned Cirque du Soleil as a storyboard and concept artist. He worked on a diverse range of concepts for events, lounges, costumes, films, architecture, video games and multi-media projects. He notably worked on the storyboards for the Las Vegas show Zumanity and designed environments on the 2012 film Worlds Away Directed by Andrew Adamson and Produced by James Cameron. Since 2008, he pursued his love of storytelling by focusing on stage directing.
Bastien wrote and directed many large-scale Cirque du Soleil events. Notably the weekend-spanning special event for the 2009 Luminato summer festival in Toronto, the 2013 Andorra Scalada show, the 2015 Opening Ceremony of the 17th Pan-American Games in Toronto at Roger Centre (Nominated for 6 Canadian Screen Awards), the 2016 Futuroscope's multimedia family night show La Forge aux Étoiles in Poitiers, France, and the 2017 Cirque du Soleil VOLTA big top touring show.
In late 2016, Bastien directed the short How Tommy Lemenchick Became a Grade Seven Legend (Official Selection at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival).
