Biography

For more than twelve years, Eric Oberdorff is the director and the choreographer of the Compagnie Humaine which he founded in 2002 and for which he created twenty projects performed in France and in Europe. Curious about mankind, considering his role as an artist the one of a privileged observer of the world, his choreographic works explore relationships to others and confront all contradictory energies driving us. Eric is frequently invited to create or to re-stage pieces of his repertoire in France, Germany, Switzerland, the United States for internationally renowned companies including Ballet National de Marseille, Ballet du Grand Theatre of Geneva, University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Eclectic artist, eager to explore all possible fields of expression, he is involved in projects within various artistic areas: plays, operas, films and documentaries, photography, universities researches, think tanks, etc. He is also considered as resource artist for cultural programs and educational projects for youth. In 2010, Eric co-founded the European network Studiotrade, and since 2015, he is the curator of Studiotrade's Platform within the frame of the International Dance Festival of Cannes. in June 2001, Eric was awarded with the 1st Prize at the International Choreographic Competition of Hanover (Germany) with his piece Impression lumieres fugitives. He was also named among the outstanding young choreographers of the year on BallettTanz magazine. In 2007, he was nominated for the Kurt Jooss Prize with the duet "Absence". He was awarded in 2009 by the Grant Committee of the Association Beaumarchais-SACD for his creation "Un autre reve americain", and his documentary "Sur la route de Petrouchka" was labeled by the European Commission. He won in 2011 with his short film "Butterfly Soul / Short" the 1st Prize at the 'Cornwall Film Festival' (Great Britain) in the 'Dance Camera Action' section. His short film "Butterfly Soul" has been selected for many international festivals, among others for 'Short Film Corner' at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
